I am not sure why but lots of people think our names sound like an awesome duo.
So it has caught on. But the reign is over. Sister Moreno will be leaving Alief on Wednesday and
I will be getting a new companion. I will miss her so much. We have been through a lot together and we have bonded over the random experiences that have arisen. From accidents to floods. Tracking to baptisms. We have been blessed with 4 awesome months together.
So we have to play serious catch up.
F officially moved last Monday and we are SAD! We have come to love that man. His decision to follow Christ has been firm since day one and he has grown immensely in the past 2 months. I know that the Memorial ward will be so great for him and he will have Elders that he can go out teaching with. The last few visits with him were wonderful and I know that he is off to great places. He has a solid testimony and that has created a desire within him to serve and reach out to those around him. It has been really hard not seeing him this week but I know we are going to be blessed with more awesome people to fill the hole. Thank goodness for social media. I will only be out of contact for like 4 months and then we can be best friends again!
Last week a long time member of the Alief Ward, S.C., passed away. We were able to help with the funeral. She was a top notch lady and I am glad I got to serve with her for a few months before she passed. 3 of her kids live in the ward and they are all amazing. It was a pleasure to see the chapel and overflow filled for her Memorial service. It is incredible how abundant the Spirit is a funerals. It was so peaceful. I am grateful that we have the Plan of Salvation that teaches us that this life is not the end. That we are here to prepare ourselves for a greater future in the presence of God.
We also made dinner for a family that was supposed to feed us but the mom ended up in the hospital a few days before. We decided to do baked potatoes but gosh darn those little things would not bake! We even prayed over them...multiple times. I am not ready for this whole cooking for yourself thing again. Apparently I am no good at it. Another member fell and broke her knee so we have spent time cooking and cleaning for her. I am so grateful for opportunities to serve!
We have had some great progress with investigators these past few weeks too. N is doing well and we are still meeting with her frequently. I attached a picture of me and her oldest boy D. Her youngest Da is camera shy but I will try to snap one ha. Right now she is on hold until her husband comes back from Nigeria in August. It is against culture to do anything without the permission of your husband. But they have been discussing it since she met us and she says it will all be good to go so we are just waiting for now. We met with C.W. this week with Sis. Moore, the member that referred her to us. She is awesome and she is prepared as well. She is taking her RN exam this next week! So she is really busy for the time being but will open up soon. We were also blessed with a referral from a member from Houston 4 who is serving his mission in Oklahoma. His dad passed away a few weeks ago so he flew home for the funeral and invited his friend G to come. We have taught him twice and he came to church on Sunday!
Speaking of church...they cancelled all meetings at the Eldridge Building on Sunday because the a/c unit finally gave out. It also just happened to give out on the day they got the carpets cleaned. So they didn't dry and it is pretty nasty humid in there. So Alief, Mission Bend and H4 had to choose another ward to go to. It was the weirdest thing, especially for a missionary. We went to the building on Bissonnet. We didn't have a meeting or responsibility all day. Every one thought we were new sisters in the ward. Awkward. Do you know how weird it is to be at a ward in which you have no stewardship?! I did not like it at all. I felt out of place. Hopefully we will be back in business next Sunday.
For mutual this past week they had a missionary night and people from the 3 wards talked about their missions all over the world. We were there for moral support I guess. But I am glad we went because it helped me put in perspective what I am doing here and helped me see what other people have learned. It helped confirmed to me that I am doing OK and that the Lord is just looking for willing hands!
Finally Pday last week! Oh my goodness we had so much fun. She took us on a short tour of Downtown and then ice skating. I wish we could have spent all day downtown but I got some good ideas of what would could do when we all come back and visit ;) We saw some famous Houston Landmarks which I was so grateful for. We went ice skating which was tons of fun. And Dad I have been ice skating a lot. That is like a BYU dating must haha. Only bummer is that because it is so hot the ice was melting and made it hard to skate. I was heading to get off the ice so we could leave and I fell (the first and only time) and landed in a huge puddle of water! Enjoy the pictures :)
Man I am out of time!
Know that I love y'all so much and I am so grateful for your love and support.
